Everything about the Olympics and Paralympics is at a gargantuan scale. The logistics, the venues, the ticket sales. The sponsors, the travel, the security. The inspiration, anticipation and the sheer spectacle of it all. And, of course, the people: the athletes and fans, volunteers and organisers, the media and the commentators.

From a broadcasting and OTT perspective, what does it take to plan and execute huge events like these? That was the topic for this week’s OTT Question Time Online (Thursday 10th October 2024).

Together with Dave Gibbs, SVP Sports Product at Warner Bros Discovery, Tim Sewell, CEO at Yospace, and Jack Genovese, Principal Analyst, Sports, at Ampere Analysis, we explored:

  • The preparation that goes into broadcasting and streaming the Olympics and Paralympics
  • The internal teams and manpower involved
  • The related timescales and challenges
  • The headline numbers (e.g. reach, streams, revenues)
  • And the lessons we can learn in hosting live, real time, TV and OTT events
