OTT Question Time Live 2025 Speaker
Kelsey Farish is a media and entertainment lawyer with a niche focus on AI and artists’ rights in creative sectors.
Her specialism stems from a desire to protect performers’ likenesses, voices, and other unique characteristics against unauthorised AI replication – and she uses this expertise to help production companies and brands leverage AI responsibly and effectively. She supports a variety of rights holders, production companies, technology platforms and talent to develop contracts and strategies that respect both individual rights and creative visions.
Farish is unique amongst many practising lawyers in that she brings a blend of research and theoretical insight to her practical advisory work. Recent highlights include advising the European Parliament, contributing to publications for the European Audiovisual Observatory, and collaborating with academics and policymakers to address the challenges and opportunities posed by deepfakes, digital replicas, and voice cloning. She was one of the first practising lawyers to become peer-reviewed on the subject of generative AI and personality (publicity) rights: her 2019 paper, “Do Deepfakes Pose a Golden Opportunity?” examined whether laws in California and England were sufficient enough to protect actors from unwanted deepfakes.
A regular speaker at industry conferences and film festivals, Farish is dedicated to making complex legal concepts easily understood. Her work has been featured on platforms like the BBC and Dispatches, reflecting her commitment to empowering individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to safeguard their work – and their rights.
